CAA Administrative Manager Sue Waddell to Retire June 30

03/01/2024

The Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority (CAA) recently announced that Administrative Manager Sue Waddell is set to retire from her position with the CAA at the conclusion of the current fiscal year on June 30, 2024. Sue has worked with the CAA, the seven-member board that oversees DeVos Place, DeVos Performance Hall and Van Andel Arena, in a full-time capacity since 2001.

During Sue’s time with the CAA, the facilities have experienced growth, expansion and improvements. Sue has assisted with these efforts as well as new opportunities, including the development of an amphitheater and soccer stadium. Sue will continue part-time work with the CAA after June 30 to assist with the transition and with other special projects as needed.

“Sue has been an incredible asset to the CAA, and we greatly appreciate her hard work and dedication over the years,” said CAA Chairman, Rick Winn. “We wish her the best of luck with her future endeavors.”

Sue has enjoyed building relationships with board members, city and county employees, and many other community partners. Highlights from her time with the venues include the DeVos Place Grand Opening, the annual Grand Rapids International Wine, Beer & Food Festival and ArtPrize. She has enjoyed a variety of concerts at Van Andel Arena, including Elton John, Dolly Parton, Janet Jackson, Cher and Metallica.

Sue’s retirement plans include spending time with friends, family and pets, as well focusing on activities such as running and traveling. She enjoys volunteering and looks forward to spending more time serving the community in that capacity. Sue plans to continue to support and attend West Michigan events as she starts this new chapter.
