Maxwell will perform at DeVos Performance Hall Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.

American R&B artist Maxwell released his first album “Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite” in 1996; it was later nominated for a Grammy. His 1999 single “Fortunate” was Billboard’s number one R&B single.

Maxwell’s next album will be released July 7, 2009. It is entitled “Blacksummers’ Night” and it is part of a trilogy.

Fans can see Maxwell on tour this summer and also when he headlines the 2009 Essence Music Festival July 4th in New Orleans. Maxwell says, “A few new songs from “Blacksummers’ Night” will be included in the concerts, but rest assured that as much as I want to, I won't bombard people with material they don't know." There will, however, be a few unexpected numbers, including a cover of Al Green's "Simply Beautiful" which earned Maxwell raves when he performed it at the 2009 BET Awards show.
